Medial Ankle Sprain

The medial ligaments (inner ankle ligaments) are less commonly injured as it’s a stronger ligament complex than the outer ankle. Injury occurs when the ligaments are overstretched (sprained). This commonly occurs when the foot and ankle are forcibly rolled outwards which may occur whilst playing a sport on an uneven surface.

Management of this injury should include the RICE regime (rest, ice, compression and elevation) and massage therapy to reduce inflammation and strengthening and balance retraining.
