Tennis Elbow

Commonly referred to as “Tennis Elbow”, extensor tendinitis (lateral epicondylitis) refers to acute inflammation of the inner elbow. Common injury amongst sports people and manual workers.

For lateral epicondylitis the most common cause is an overuse syndrome related to excessive wrist extension. If the tendons are stressed for a prolonged period degeneration and inflammation within the tendons occurs on the inside of the elbow. These tendons connect the forearm muscles to their origin from the arm bone.

Management of this condition involves RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) at the early stage of injury in conjunction with massage therapy to regain proper functioning of muscles around the elbow and correct any bio-mechanical anomalies.
